When he ﷺwas 40 years old, The revelation on the Holy Prophet ﷺ started at the cave Hira. The Cave Hira is situated at a distance of Nearly 5 Kilometers from Makkah. This cave is situated in a mountain named Jabel Noor. The Holy Prophet ﷺ used to go the Cave Hira. He ﷺ used to take food items with him and worshipped Allah Almighty in solitude. The Holy Prophet ﷺ used to stay for the full month of Ramadan in the cave.
When the Angel Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام came, the Holy Prophet ﷺ was busy in worship. Angel Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام said to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ‘Iqra’, meaning read. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ replied: ‘I cannot read’, Hazrat Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلامthen embraced him and after releasing said; Iqra. Hazrat Muhammad’s ﷺ answer was the same as before. Hazrat Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام embraced the Holy Prophet ﷺ and repeated the word ‘Iqra’ Hazrat Muhammad’s ﷺ answer was the once again the same as before. Hazrat Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام embraced for the third time, asked him to repeat after him and said; “Read with the name of you Lord who created (everything). He created man form a clot of blood. Read and your Lord is the Most Gracious, who imparted knowledge by means of the pen. He taught man what he did not know. “Thus the Holy Prophet ﷺ received the first revelation.
At the time of the first revelation, the heart of the Holy Prophet ﷺ started throbbing fast. After this incident, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ became anxious and fearful. He ﷺ left Cave Hira and went home. He ﷺ went to bed and asked his wife Hazrat Khadija رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا to cover him.
