| Hazrat Muhammad |
Hazrat Muhammad ﷺwas born on 12 Rabi' al-Awwal (the year of the Elephant) into the Banu Hashim family of the noble tribe of Quraish in Mekkah. His father, Hazrat Abdullah, had died a few months before his birth. His mother, Hazrat Amina, was a very virtuous woman.
According
to Arab tradition, he was entrusted to Hazrat Halimah Sa'diya, a woman from the
Banu Sa'd tribe, to suckle him. He spent five years in the open and clean air
of the desert, which gave him eloquence in his language and strength in his
body.
When
heﷺ was six years old, his mother died. After
his mother, his grandfather, Hazrat Abdul Muttalib, raised him, but he also
passed away two years later.
Finally,
Hazrat Abu Talib, the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
took over his
responsibility and loved him more than his own children.
As
the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ grew
up, his pure character emerged. The people of Mekkah became fascinated by his
honesty, truthfulness and trustworthiness.
The
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ took up trade as a profession and with his
honesty earned such a reputation in trade that people started calling him
‘Al-Sadiq’ (True) and ‘Al-Amin’ (Trustworthy).
Halaf-ul-Fudul:
In his youth, he participated in an agreement ‘Halaf-ul-Fudul’ to help the
oppressed, which aimed to eliminate injustice from society.
Due
to the Prophet ﷺ’s fame and high morals, Hazrat Khadija رضي الله عنه, a respected and wealthy widow of Mekkah,
offered him the supervision of her trade. With the blessings of the Prophet ﷺ, her trade became immensely profitable.
Impressed by his character, she sent him a message of marriage. At that time,
he was 25 years old and Hazrat Khadija رضي الله عنه
was 40 years old. This marriage was an important turning point in the life of
the Prophet ﷺ, because Hazrat
Khadija رضي الله عنه supported him in
every difficult time.
When
the Prophet ﷺ was 35 years old, the Kaaba was rebuilt. A dispute broke out
among the tribes over the placement of the Black Stone in its place, which
could have led to bloodshed. The Prophet ﷺ, with his strategy, ordered a sheet,
placed the Black Stone in it, and had the chiefs of all the tribes lift it.
Thus, he averted a great war and proved that he was the best reformer.
When he ﷺwas 40 years old, The revelation on the Holy Prophet ﷺ started at the cave Hira. The Cave Hira is situated at a distance of Nearly 5 Kilometers from Makkah. This cave is situated in a mountain named Jabel Noor. The Holy Prophet ﷺ used to go the Cave Hira. He ﷺ used to take food items with him and worshipped Allah Almighty in solitude. The Holy Prophet ﷺ used to stay for the full month of Ramadan in the cave.
When the Angel Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام came, the Holy
Prophet ﷺ was busy in
worship. Angel Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام said to Prophet
Muhammad ﷺ ‘Iqra’, meaning
read. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ replied: ‘I
cannot read’, Hazrat Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلامthen
embraced him and after releasing said; Iqra. Hazrat Muhammad’s ﷺ answer was the same as before. Hazrat
Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام embraced the Holy
Prophet ﷺ and repeated the
word ‘Iqra’ Hazrat Muhammad’s ﷺ answer
was the once again the same as before. Hazrat Gabriel عَلیہِ السّلام embraced for the
third time, asked him to repeat after him and said; “Read with the name of you
Lord who created (everything). He created man form a clot of blood.
Read and your Lord is the Most Gracious, who imparted knowledge by means of the
pen. He taught man what he did not know. “Thus the Holy
Prophet ﷺ received the
first revelation.
At
the time of the first revelation, the heart of the Holy Prophet ﷺ started throbbing
fast. After this incident, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ became anxious and fearful. He ﷺ left Cave Hira and went home. He ﷺ went to bed and asked his wife Hazrat Khadija رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا to cover him.
